Swedish Toys For the World to Enjoy

Unfortunately this line of wooden toys was discontinued in the year 2000. With the creation of Thomas the Train, Brio became the European manufacturer and outlet for this new line of wooden trains. In 2004 the product of the Brio toys was moved from Sweden to china where it remains today This is why the Thomas the Train cars and engines are connected with magnets just like Brio' toy trains are.

The Brio wooden toy company became world famous starting in 1958 when their toy trains became very popular. Toys were not the original product from this company. These toys trains were distinctive. In this line were the tugboats Benjamin Bridge, the Dispatcher, Chester the container ship and a couple of barges named Barrington and Bonavista. 'Br' stands for the 3 brothers that were the second generation of this family that transformed this basket making company into a wooden toy company.

It was originally a basket making company. When the second generation of Bengtsson's began working in the company their focus changed to wooden toys and a toy company was born. Other than trains, Brio also manufactured the Theodore Tugboat line of toys. The name Brio also has its origins from this unique little village.

The 'I' is from the Swedish word for 'at' which is Ivarsson. This made it easy for little hands to play with and control them. They were non-motorized trains that could connect to other cars by means of a magnet. The' o' is the simplest; it stands for the village of Osby. The Brio toys are from a wooden toy company that has its roots in the village of Osby, Sweden.
